Did you know? Your favorite Nankhatai first originated in the 16th century in the city of Surat, Gujarat.
Those were the times when the Dutch and Indians were involved in heavy trade and many Dutch immigrants were making Surat their home. A Dutch couple sensed a business opportunity and started a bakery to sell breads and other confectionery items to
the neighbors. After the Dutch left the country, the Dutch couple handed over the bakery to a local employee who continued with the business. It is at this bakery that the Nankhatai we know today originated.
